Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries- Matching Grant Challenge

Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries is pleased to announce that a Matching Grant Challenge is being offered by a couple of long-time ministry partners.  For this Challenge, any financial contribution to Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries from a congregation of any denomination will be matched by Northway Christian Church, Dallas, TX up to $50,000 and First Christian Church, Denton, TX from $50,000 up to $56,000. This match is for cash donations attained by September 15, not for pledges. In-kind donations do not match this grant.

Through Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries:

  • You provide Beans and Rice to 23 agencies and ministries along both sides of the border, feeding 250 to 600 people each day.
  • You help relocate traumatized asylum seekers to live closer to their courts, families, and communities.
  • You help improve housing to a livable health standard in one of the poorest counties in Texas.
  • You provide housing, toys, school supplies, hospice aid and more to families without insurance.
  • You facilitate transportation to mental health care, medical care, and legal aid clinics.
  • You provide pastoral care for those in crisis and hurting

To give toward this Matching Grant Challenge please make your check payable to Azle Christian Church and mark your check/envelope with Good Samaritan. You may also make a donation through ACC’s website under the “Online Giving” tab and select the Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries fund. We will take matching grant donations through September 9th, 2018.

Trinity Brazos Area

The Trinity Brazos Area is going to build a Habitat house in the Como area of Fort Worth this fall. This golf tournament is one of the major fundraisers for this build. ACC has allocated 5% of the normal 10% of giving from outreach funds to this project. In addition, 10% of the proceeds of the 20th Annual Drive for Compassion Golf Classic will go to the Habitat build. We will have a hole sign at the tournament because we are a financial supporter.

Disciples church members get a reduced rate to  $125 per player. It would be great if we could have at least two teams from ACC to participate in this event. We also could use some volunteers to help. As usual, the most help is needed at the beginning which would mean getting to the golf course by 7 am. If you can help, please let me know. I am  responsible for putting the goody bags together and getting some raffle items.

Summer Festival of Preaching

Summer Festival of Preaching
This summer we have a rare opportunity to hear from leading voices in our region.  Several guests will be filling the pulpit at Azle Christian Church beginning with The Rev. Megan Peglar.  She currently serves in the UNT Health Sciences System.  Rev. Peglar has led numerous workshops and seminars including the CCSW women’s retreat, and most recently served River Oaks Christian Church.  She’s familiar with our church, participating in our “Holy Guacamole” Bible Studies and our Lenten Devotional series.
The following week, June 17th, our new Regional Minister, the Rev. Dr. Andy Mangum will preach. Dr. Mangum has served churches in this region for over 20 years and brings a passion for the gospel to everything he does.  Later in the summer we’ll be led by Don Tatlock, who served as a missionary for several years in Central America, and the Rev. Matthew Hudman, one of our church Timothys who currently serves Memorial Drive Christian Church in Houston.  This will be a tremendous summer of inspiration and growth.

Each week will bring a different voice of encouragement and celebration.
Make planes to be present every Sunday.
