Mosaic Faith - #2 Deconstructing Salvation

Opening Song:        Mighty to Save - Hillsong

Everyone needs compassion

A love that's never failing

Let mercy fall on me

Everyone needs forgiveness

The kindness of a Saviour

The hope of nations

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

C'mon sing it out

So take me as You find me

And all my fears and failures

Fill my life again

I give my life to follow

Everything I believe in

Now I surrender

Saviour

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of Salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

C'mon lift up your shout of praise

Shine Your light and let the whole world see

We're singing

For the glory of the risen King, Jesus

Shine Your light and let the whole world see

We're singing

For the glory of the risen King

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

Opening Prayer Kennedy Clark

She’s the 1st one awake in the morning and she’s up in the middle of the night with her mind working overtime on how to keep this gadget called life going.

She’s the hardest worker we’ve ever seen – always improving herself at work and still making time for kisses and snuggles when she gets home.

She helps us finish projects, to create new crafts, to bake tasty brownies. She’s always organizing a new plan to make memories with her kids and spouse.

She’s often exhausted but smiling. Her body aches but her spirit keeps her – and us – going.

She’s a generous giver – always thinking of someone in need or a way to make someone feel special and loved.

She makes life worth living.

She’s mommy.

Lord, we give thanks for mothers and motherly figures who show us what your love looks like. Amen.

Call to Worship:       Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed? #204

1 Alas! and did my Savior bleed,

and did my Sovereign die!

Would he devote that sacred head

for sinners such as I?

2 Was it for crimes that I have done,

he groaned upon the tree?

Amazing pity! Grace unknown!

And love beyond degree!

3 Well might the sun in darkness hide,

and shut its glories in,

when God, the mighty maker, died

for his own creature's sin.

4 Thus might I hide my blushing face

while his dear cross appears;

dissolve my heart in thankfulness,

and melt mine eyes to tears.

5 But drops of tears can ne'er repay

the debt of love I owe.

Here, Lord, I give myself away;

'tis all that I can do.

Litany of FaithChris Piercy

One: Lord, take our everyday, ordinary life – our sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and receive it as our offering.

All: Embracing what God does for us is the best thing we can do for God.

One: Don’t become so well-adjusted to our culture that we fit into it without even thinking.

All: Instead, let us fix our attention on God.

One: Change us from the inside out. May we recognize what you want from us, and respond to it.

All: May God bring the best out of us. Amen.

(from Romans 12:1-2, The Message Bible)

Scripture Meditation – John 3:17

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

One: This is the word of God for the people of God.

All: Thanks be to God.

How has God saved you? What does salvation mean to you?

We’ve all been taught John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

But this next verse is just as important. God loved the world. God did not send his son to condemn the world, but to save the world. The world.

Does that mean all of us? The verse doesn’t say, “God came to save those who believe in him.”

It says, “God came to save the world.” Does God get what God wants?

When does this “eternal life” start? After we die? What about this life? Did God save the world 2000 years ago? Are we already saved? Has God’s grace always been for us?

We’ll be looking at how God saves us and shows us this grace in different ways when we get to the sermon. Let us think about this as we move into our time of prayer.

Time of Prayer & Reflection – Kennedy Clark

One: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Let us pray.

Creator and creating God, who formed us in our mother’s womb, we pray for our moms, our grandmas, our mimis, our nanas,

For all these hard-working women,

The get up early, stay up late, can’t go to sleep women,

The master degrees, follow your dreams, CEO boss to live up to women,

For the making a difference, lending a helping hand, going the extra mile women,

To the time managing, self-sacrificing, creating the best out of us women,

For the beautiful inside and out, who created these heels women,

To the strong, determined, take no crap women,

To the work 12 hours and still make it to the kids activities women,

To the working mom, dropping everything to hug your child, still caring for all of us when we are sick women,

For the women who don’t need a man to define who they are, but the men complement you and lift you up for being you women,

For the women who can be anything they want to be because God created them to be OWESOME,

We give thanks for these mamas, for those longing to be moms, for those grieving the loss of their moms, and for those who nurture and care for us as motherly figures.

Care for our moms this day as they have cared for us.

Thank you for all the women who have given us a glimpse of what your love and grace look like, God.

And Lord, will you hear us as we pray the prayer Jesus taught us…

Our Father, who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

Forgive us our debts

As we forgive our debtors

And lead us not into temptation

But Deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Responsive Hymn – Amazing Grace #546

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch; like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.

2

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

  And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear

  The hour I first believed!

3

The Lord hath promised good to me,

  His word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be

  As long as life endures.

4

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

  Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise

  Than when we first begun.

Sharing Our Resources

During this time of giving – we give all of ourselves.

We give our prayers through our prayer request cards, asking that the body of Christ pray for ourselves and our loved ones when we are weak.

We give financially to help the ministries of this church.

We give by serving this church to meet the needs of those who share this space with us.

We give by holding the hand of the one next to us and encouraging the asking of the messy questions, not so we always find the answer, but sometimes just so we know we’re not alone in the asking of these questions.

So, let us give our all to God – that amidst the chaos that surrounds us, we know God’s love and grace will be constant. Amen.

Anthem –   Beautiful Things by Gungor

Communion Song – How Great Thou Art #33

Oh Lord, my God

When I, in awesome wonder

Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder

Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in

That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing

He bled and died to take away my sin

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation

And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart

Then I shall bow, in humble adoration

And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

*Benediction Response – Because He Lives #562

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;

He came to love, heal and forgive;

He lived and died to buy my pardon,

An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future,

And life is worth the living,

Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,

And feel the pride and joy he brings;

But greater still the calm assurance:

This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future,

And life is worth the living,

Just because He lives!

And then one day, I'll cross the river,

I'll fight life's final war with pain;

And then, as death gives way to victory,

I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future,

And life is worth the living,

Just because He lives!
